Não resisto a acrescentar duas, pelo menos:

[Em resposta à pergunta «o que é a poesia?»] «Why Sir, it is much easier to say what it is not. We all know what light is; but it is not easy to tell what it is.»

[No prefácio ao Dictionary of English Language, de 1775, e que bem poderia ser citada durante as discussões actuais sobre o ensino do Português] «The chief glory of every people arises from its authors.»

Não resisto a dar um argumento aos anglófonos para discussões de algibeira:

«A Frenchman must be always talking, whether he knows anything of the matter or not; an Englishman is content to say nothing, when he has nothing to say.»
